Our Parish

St. Peter’s and St. Andrew’s Church practices the unconditional love of God and respects and welcomes all. Our mission emerges from the Baptismal Covenant to respect the dignity of every human being by welcoming, validating, and supporting all persons whatever their race, color, gender, age, sexual orientation, health status, marital status, or stage of spiritual journeying. Our goal is to nurture and encourage this spiritual journey through worship and community so that all may be ever free from the bonds of fear, mistrust, bigotry, and hatred in order to fulfill Jesus’ command to love one another and follow his example of service.

St. Peter’s and St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church is a small but vibrant congregation in the heart of Providence, RI. Since 1972, our parish has gathered for worship, fellowship, and service.

We come together each Sunday to share in prayer, song, and the presence of Christ. Beyond our walls, our ministry extends to the community through a variety of outreach programs—our weekly food pantry, thrift store, English language learners classes and children’s programs. Whether offering a meal, clothing, or care, we strive to be a source of compassion and hope for our neighbors.

Our story began when two congregations became one. After a fire devastated St. Peter’s in Johnston, its people joined with St. Andrew’s Parish in Providence. Together, they built a new chapter rooted in resilience and faith. Today, our church reflects both histories—gathering in a small but beautiful space that carries the spirit of unity, perseverance, and grace.

At St. Peter’s and St. Andrew’s, we welcome all who seek a spiritual home. There are many ways to share your gifts—through worship and prayer, service to others, caring for our sacred spaces, or supporting the mission of the parish. Wherever you are on your journey, you have a place here.

Clergy and Staff

  • Reverend Maryalice Sullivan

    VICAR

    Reverend Maryalice Sullivan has dedicated her life to faith, family, and compassionate service. Married for over 55 years and the mother of four children, she answered her call to ministry after raising her family, graduating from Yale Divinity School in 1990. She was ordained a deacon that same year and a priest in the Episcopal Church in 1991.

    From 1997 to 2014, she served as the rector of her own parish, where she provided pastoral leadership, spiritual guidance, and community outreach.

    Following this, she continued to serve the Episcopal Church through interim ministry and missionary work in Tanzania, where she supported and walked alongside congregations with humility and care.

    In 2018, she was called to serve as Vicar of St. Peter’s and St. Andrew’s, where she continues her ministry today. Under her leadership, the church’s outreach has grown to support over 200 families each week through its food pantry, embodying her belief that faith is most true when expressed through compassion in action.

    In quiet moments, she finds peace in knitting — a practice she describes as both grounding and prayerful. Her life and ministry reflect a deep, enduring commitment to walking in grace, service, and love.

  • Jordan Cannady

    MUSICIAN

    Jordan is a resident of Cranston, RI and has been a professional guitar player and vocalist for 57 years.  He has performed in a number of states, Canada, and the United Kingdom. In addition to this he is a professional actor.

  • Catherine Calistra

    PARISH ADMINISTATOR

    In January 2007 I was offered the position as the Parish Administrator at St. Peter’s & St. Andrew’s. The warm welcome I received on my first day has never faded. I have been Maryalice’s administrator since 2018 and work in harmony with her so that every transition is smooth and flawless.

    The parish office is always busy; with tons of filing (not my favorite task), answering the phone, mailings, paying invoices, scheduling vendors, etc. This office has definitely pushed my office and computer skills to the limit. I have to say, though, my favorite responsibility is the Sunday bulletin. It’s that quiet creative time that I enjoy the most with reading the scriptures and deciding what clipart to use which keeps the Sunday bulletin interesting.

    Other than working for the church, I love sewing, crocheting, and playing in dirt. Yes, gardening is one of my passions besides spending time with family and my grandson. Oh, and I can’t forget to mention my two fur babies, Bentley and Lucy.

    So, if you call the parish office and you hear, “good morning, St. Peter’s & St. Andrew’s, Catherine speaking” that’s me.

Our Neighborhood

Our parish is located in the Mt. Pleasant neighborhood of Providence, Rhode Island, between Atwells Avenue and Chalkstone Avenue. The diversity of our neighborhood can be seen in the numerous ethnicities, languages, sexual orientations, and ages. We aim to support and enrich our neighborhood through our ministries and outreach services.

The Episcopal Church

Beyond our community in Central Providence, we belong to a regional, national and global Episcopal community with a common mission. Historically, our local ministry has served everyone from infants to seniors and the formerly incarcerated. The Episcopal Diocese of Rhode Island, the Episcopal Church of the United States, and, globally, Episcopal Relief & Development provide us with direction for our ministries.
